Moving to Nottingham from London left me feeling like a spare part when it came to socialising. Especially when friends come to visit. I’d know the regular chain restaurants (I mean they’re easy to find and you know what to expect) but it’s been more difficult finding somewhere unique to eat out when the girls come down. Having two babies doesn’t help with exploring, but slowly I’ve found a few gems. My latest Nottingham restaurant find is Burra Khana. It brings classic Indian street food to Nottingham and really is quite unique.

Based in the heart of Nottingham, right opposite the lace market car market and tram stop (fab for transport!) Burra Khana is a bright and colourful addition to an otherwise standard street corner. One look inside and you’re greeted with a huge flash of colour, reminiscent of the colours you’d see in markets of New Delhi. It has a gorgeous interior. Dark but still colourful, super relaxed and great Indian music at just the right volume.
We went on a girls night, ready for a little catch up over good food and we weren’t disappointed. We started with poppadoms which were crisp and fresh. I had the butter chicken wings to start because if you know me, you’ll know I ALWAYS order the chicken wings. They were coated in a gorgeous butter sauce and tasted amazing. They were soft but not soggy and talking about them now is making my mouth water!

For main, I had the Lamb Boti from the grill. Pieces of tender lamb marinated with red chilli, garlic, ginger and coriander. A classic old-school Mumbai dish. It was a huge portion with a super fresh salad. My bestie had the LASUNI CHICKEN TIKKA and if I’m honest, although they were both good, the chicken tikka won me over. Food envy alert!
For dessert, we had the rice pudding with Cashew, cardamom,
rose & coconut. As a heads up, the rice pudding was cold (it’s supposed to be) and it was delicious! It took me a moment to get my head around it but it was delightful.

The entire menu was super tasty but unique. It’s not your regular Indian restaurant and it’s definitely a great place to try something new. You won’t find your standard Indian meals, instead, it’s lot’s of new and exciting Indin food to get your tongue tingling. On a side note, one of my girlfriends had the Vada Pao (Bombay’s version of a chip butty with a spicy Ghati masala) as a starter and it was HUGE! Def worth sharing that one!
