Sometimes you need a little push to go outside of your comfort zone. I feel like the next few months are full of special occasions. That means there are loads of reasons to find those pieces that can transition into day and night. A perfect example is this gorgeous velour blackcurrant dress from Simply Be. Yes, I said velour! I told you… the season to experiment. It’s a gorgeous dress, once it’s on the glamour is still there but don’t feel as over the top as I thought I might feel. It’s subtly glamorous and I’m besotted with it.

First up, let’s get the velour issue out of the way. It feels and looks like velvet if that helps you fathom the texture. It’s actually a really lovely fabric, one of those where people want to feel the fabric for themselves. It’s a slightly heavy fabric so definitely one for the chillier evenings if you’re planning a party outfit.
The colour is divine; it’s basically deep red with a little sheen to the fabric in the light. The skirt section of the dress is tiered so it dips in at the waist and skims over my belly. It has a little fit and flare about it, which is my favourite cut of dress. The 3-quarter length sleeves are actually pretty generous, I had no issues with the arms and the 3-quarter length works well with the little ruffles on the end.

It has a ruffle high collar, which I was a little worried about, but again, the sizing was great (I’m wearing a 26) and it didn’t feel too tight or irritate my neck. The entire dress is surprisingly comfortable. It’s also a midi length, which ticks another favourite of mine.
What’s great about this dress is you can match it with boots and a jacket for a simple daytime look, and then spice it up with tassel earrings, a belt and a bright lip for the evening. It’s definitely staying in my wardrobe for a long time to come; I can see this being my saviour dress on more than one occasion.
