I love my ripped jeans as much as the next person. But when the sun comes out I’m a sucker for a bright floral. It could be a dress, kimono, t-shirt… anything to be honest. But so often I see a dress and I have to think about my day before I wear it. Not necessarily because I care what people think. (I’ve already discussed fashion fears over here) but more out of practicality.

Is it going to be windy? Do I want to avoid the issue of chub rub all together? (Thighs rubbing together for those that don’t know) Do I want my pale legs away until I feel a bit more confident about them? (Because it’s OK to have off days) Whatever it is, I still want to look and feel summery! Plus, keep cool. Because I hate being hot and sticky. So here’s where I took the jump. Literally. I started wearing jumpsuits. Which is all well and good. But then there’s the little difficulty of having to go to the toilet by yourself. Unfortunately I haven’t mastered that technique yet. So I decided to try culottes. Which scared me for numerous reasons.
I’ve tried wearing culottes before and hated everything about them. From the camel toe, to the length. I felt like the length made me look stumpy. I didn’t like how one leg rode up as my chub rubbed together and overall I just wasn’t a fan. It’s as simple as that. But I decided to try again. You know how your tastes for certain foods change over time, I feel like the same happens with clothing. It’s always good to experiment and try something different. Especially when the weather changes. I mean sometimes it feels like 7 years before we get a sunny day in the UK! So I went on the hunt. I decided that if I was going to do culottes for summer, they needed to be bright. Preferably floral. Because like I said, they look like a great alternative to summer dresses.

I was pretty chuffed with myself when I found this gorgeous number. Bright yellow, floral print wide leg culottes from Simply Be. I decided wide leg might be better so that they are a little floatier with a little more room. Hopefully preventing camel toe and all that jazz. Well, needless to say this blog post is live because I was pretty impressed.
These culottes in general are elasticated at the back and are pull on trousers. So the comfort is similar to that of leggings. WINNING! They feel like thin scuba material so although they are floaty, I feel like there is a little bit of structure to them. Plus, they are super stretchy. They’re a gorgeous bright yellow and the purple floral makes my heart skip a beat. They definitely win in the comfort stakes.
I have to say, after trying these; I’ve totally sold on culottes now. I think the trick is to opt for wide leg and big patterns. They’re easily paired with a plain top of any kind and really are a great alternative to the summer dress. They deal with the chub rub issue and actually, I didn’t feel stumpy at all! I’ll be wearing these with some white trainers for comfort next time too.
Now if the sun could come back for more than a day I’d totally appreciate it!
