How To: Get a Killer Red Lip

I love a good red lip… or any bright lip to be honest. Even if I wear no other make up, when I put on a striking lipstick I feel like I’ve put a new outfit on. It took me years to get used to wearing the stuff and now I have a drawer full of lip products! In honour of getting my lipstick mojo back and just in time for kissing season, here are my 5 top products and tips to create the killer red lip.

1.First up you need a good red lipstick. Keep trying until you find a shade that you love. I’m a fan of all budgets from allbeauty, from high street to super brands. But there is something about a slightly more expensive red lipstick that makes it better quality and less likely to smudge. Trust me, the last thing you want is a smudged red lip! I’m a fan of this Lancome, L’Absolu Rouge Lipstick and it has a satin type finish.

2.I don’t use a lip liner regularly but it’s worth using one to prevent feathering, color bleeding and also to help enhance the shape of your lips. Choose a clear one or one that matches the colour of your lipstick as much as possible.

3.& 4. It’s not just about the lipstick, but also the condition of your lips. The change in weather, pollution and general life makes our lips prone to all types of dryness and roughness so give them a bit of TLC. L’Occitane lip balm and Clarins lip oil are two of my faves. Simple products to help protect your lips, keeping them nourished and comfortable. It’s about making the base perfect for your lip colour.

5.An alternative to lipstick, I’m a big fan of lip stains. mainly because they are super long wearing and you don’t need to keep reapplying. Revlon Colourburst are some of my faves and they last ages – you can build up the colour too so you can have it as strong as you like.

Finally, no matter what you wear it’s all about wearing it with confidence. Wear what makes you happy and you’ll always have a killer look.
